Hand picked grapes from a small family vineyard making their iconic Bikavér (literal translation Bulls Blood) this is the hugely important cultural red wine of Hungary commemorating the historic siege of 1552 at Eger castle and made famous throughout Europe by Hungary’s Russian occupiers after the second world war when massive volumes were exported with little thought to quality. When the Hungarian farmers retrieved their lands, various stringent quality controls were put in place, only allowing Bikaver to be produced in the regions of Eger and Szekszard, however stylistically both are extremely different. Here the Tuske family vineyard in the Southern wine region of Szekszard benefits from a warmer Mediterranean climate producing soft complex wines with red berried fruits, compared to the dark black fruit profiles of Eger in the north.
